Bi-lingual conference animateur
It seems that the role "animateur" is not widely recognised in UK or is broadly covered by terms like presenter or chairman. I will briefly expand on the meaning of the term and why it differs from the normal English alternative names for similar roles.
It is common at a conference for many of the delegates to be strangers to each other. A conference will be far more effective if there is good communication between the delegates. Sometimes these more personal contacts will deliver more value than the platform speakers and formal question and answer sessions.
Where some of the delegates are known to one-another there is a tendency for them to stick together and newcomers may feel like outsiders.
Where some delegates are senior and respected figures some less experienced attendees may have some diffidence about initiating a dialogue.
An animateur can help address these obstacles to effective communication. In addition to introducing the meeting and the speakers, proposing votes of thanks etc an animateur will endeavour to break down these barriers to communication and instill a greater sense of common purpose.
